Please Do Not Sit – A Show About Chairs – 2022

Please Do Not Sit - A Show About Chairs
Rimbun Dahan 2022

A chair is more than just a seat—it’s a blend of function and design, a symbol of rest and reflection. In Please Do Not Sit – A Show About Chairs, I transform this everyday object into a canvas for storytelling. During my residency at Rimbun Dahan, I explored the connection between chairs, memory, and impermanence. Using found and repurposed materials, I created works that embrace sustainability and simplicity, letting the raw essence of the materials shine. The exhibition resembles a cabinet of curiosities, with each piece telling a story. Works like The Things You Burn to Repel Mosquitoes in Rural Areas and Masuk Kelambu evoke memories of rural life, while Kerusi Kinki and Feed Me Sayang offer satirical takes on modern desires. For me, chairs are vessels of memory and transformation. Pieces like Master and Disciple and Agus Bima pay tribute to the people and experiences that shaped my journey, tying the exhibition into a larger narrative about humanity and impermanence.
